Snehatheeram, Manjalamoodu

SNEHATHEERAM is a voluntary organization established by the Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam Diocese of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church, dedicated to supporting individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. It is practical manifestation of Gospel of sharing with and caring for "the least of these brethren". It is registered under the Charitable Societies Registration Act.

BACKGROUND: The organization was founded in response to an HIV/AIDS case in a parish, prompting the church to take action. Under the leadership of Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Episcopa, Snehatheeram – meaning ‘Love Shore' - was established in 2000 at Manjalummoodu. It serves people without discrimination based on caste or religion.

THE MISSION: Snehatheeram is committed to the holistic development of marginalized communities, with a special focus on those living with HIV/AIDS. Its goal is to enhance their quality of life, uphold their rights, and restore human dignity. The Snehatheeram family comprises 156 families spread across three districts: Thiruvananthapuram & Kollam in Kerala and Kanyakumari in Tamilnadu.

"Sparsh - A touch can make the difference" Pain & Palliative Care Programme.

‘Sparsh’ aims to identify members in need, offer guidance and help for receiving suitable treatment, provide care at home for the aged, bed ridden and incurably ill. It also aims to provide health care and support to elderly above the age of 65 years residing in Thiruvananthapuram and later on expand to other parts of the Diocese. It aims in the ‘quality of life’ rather than the ‘length of life’.
